This course presents the theories and principles of modern psychology. Students will cover various aspects of psychology and understand the practical application of psychological tenets to functional behavior.

Program Objectives 

  1. Define Psychology.
  2. Explain the physical, cognitive, moral, social, and emotional development of adolescents and adults.
  3. Define consciousness.
  4. Describe principles and methods of classical conditioning.
  5. Discuss the roles of nature and nurture in the development of intelligence.
  6. Describe the sociocultural perspective on personality.
  7. Define stress and identify various sources of stress.
  8. Explain why people obey authority figures and conform to social pressure.

Professor

Kelly Trent has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Science from American Intercontenintal University and a Masters of Science in Psychology from Grand Canyon University. Kelly Trent previously taught adults with autism and has also worked, and continues to work as a Licensed Massage Therapist. Some of her hobbies include reading and watching true crime documentaries. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family. She has a daughter and a new grandson.

Cheating (dishonestly taking the knowledge of another person whether on a test or an assignment and presenting it as your work) and plagiarism (to take and pass off as one's own the ideas or writing of another) are a serious issue. While it is legitimate to talk to others about your assignments and incorporate suggestions, do not let others "write" your assignments in the name of peer review or "borrow" sections or whole assignments written by others. We do get ideas from life experiences and what we read but be careful that you interpret these ideas and make them your own.

I am aware that many types of assignments are available on the internet and will check these sources when there is legitimate suspicion.

Penalty is a zero on the assignment. In cases where there is a major or continuous breach of trust, further discipline, such as an "F" in the course, may be necessary.

The major consequence of any form of cheating is damage to your character and the result of trust and respect.

The student can request an accommodation at any time although it is encouraged to do so early in the enrollment process.
